Motek introduces in-mold labeling (IML) dedicated injection molds for plastic round tables requiring surface decoration. Unlike standard round table molds, IML molds require pre-printed labels to be placed into the cavity before mold closing, so that the label and tabletop are formed integrally during injection—eliminating subsequent printing or film-application processes. The core challenges lie in flat adsorption of large circular labels, gate positioning to protect the ink, and label conformity in curved circumferential areas. Motek addresses these three aspects through gate optimization, vacuum adsorption systems, and label positioning structure design, helping customers achieve simultaneous decoration and forming of round tabletops.

Gates Positioned Away from Labels to Prevent Ink Wash.
The most common defect in IML injection molding is ink erosion near the gate caused by melt scouring (gate wash). Motek designs gates outside the label coverage area, or at least maintains sufficient distance, using submarine or banana gates to prevent melt from directly impacting the printed label surface. For solutions requiring labeling in the center of round tables, edge-gate runner layouts can be evaluated.
Vacuum Adsorption Ensures Flat Conformity of Circular Labels.
Round table labels are large-area circular sheets that must remain stable in position, free of displacement and wrinkles, during mold closing and injection after placement in the cavity. Motek designs vacuum adsorption circuits on the cavity surface, holding the label flat against the mold wall through micro-holes or slits, preventing melt flow from displacing the label. Adsorption hole positions and density are distributed according to tabletop curvature and label dimensions.
Label Pre-Forming Coordination for Circular Curved Areas.
If the round table features edge flanges or curved transition areas, labels must be pre-thermoformed to match the cavity surface before placement. Motek confirms the label pre-forming solution with customers during the mold design phase, ensuring cavity surface and label shape match to avoid wrinkles or edge lifting caused by poor conformity. For flat tabletop labels only, a direct flat-sheet adsorption solution is used.
Shrinkage Correction and Wall Thickness Control.
IML products have constrained plastic substrate shrinkage due to the label surface coverage, resulting in actual shrinkage rates smaller than standard injection molded parts. Motek calculates cavity dimensions using corrected shrinkage rates to avoid diameter or thickness deviations in round tables. Additionally, uniform wall thickness is recommended in labeled areas to reduce label-area sinking or deformation caused by uneven cooling.
Draft Angles Adapted for Label Protection.
IML molds require larger draft angles than standard molds to prevent the hardened label surface layer from being scraped by the mold wall during ejection. Motek provides ample draft angles at round table edges and label coverage areas, with a balanced ejection system layout ensuring labels are not damaged during demolding of large-diameter round tables.
Motek IML plastic round table molds are suitable for:
After the customer provides 3D round table drawings and label design plans, Motek completes mold flow analysis (including label area filling evaluation) and mold structure confirmation; cavity steel and vacuum adsorption systems are configured per IML requirements; during trial molding, Motek cooperates with the customer on label placement and adsorption verification, providing labeled samples for confirmation. Before shipment, molds undergo anti-rust treatment and adsorption circuit testing, with water circuit diagrams, vacuum circuit diagrams, consumable parts lists, and IML operation notes provided. Technical support is available during the warranty period, with lifetime maintenance consultation.
